Eastlife: an anthology of life writing

EastLife is a research project developed by the Writing Centre in the School of Arts and Digital Industries at the University of East London, and inspired by the life writing of students in the Creative Writing programmes. Through the Civic Engagement initiative at UEL, the students and community elders came together to exchange stories. The students not only participated in the community by meeting and engaging with the elders’ stories, but they were offered the wonderful privilege of using their writing talent to tell those stories in original and evocative ways.

The pieces are organized around three themes: Memory, Culture and Change. These are key themes in any urban life, and they allow the interweaving of biography with autobiography, offering a way of looking at life writing in the broader context of its socio-political importance.

EastLife is availble as a free download from the University of East London's Writing Centre.
